The Little Town that Blew Away

Udall, tucked into the northwest corner of Cowley County, offers the best of both worlds: quiet, small-town living with the excitement of a big city nearby.

Locally know as the little town that blew away, Udall’s history is marked by the devastating F5 tornado that occurred on May 25th, 1955 that killed 80 people and injured 273. The devastation brought about life-saving advances in weather warning systems. Despite the hardship Udall persevered.

This progressive community completed several infrastructure improvement projects including a new water tower and water lines. They have heavily invested in the city park and renovated the community center, a hub for the residents and the site for many city events. They have most recently recruited a Dollar General store in 2021 and secured funding for a new side walk to the Dollar General in 2022.

Located 25 minutes from the Wichita metro area, many residents commute to the city to take advantage of job opportunities as well as shopping, dining and entertainment.

Udall is an attractive option for new residents, with family housing and room to build it is the perfect place to call home.

Public Education: USD 463

  • Math and reading assessments exceeded state average in 2013: ACT scores matched state
  • 12-1 student-to-teacher ratio provides personalized experience
  • Teacher stability — about one-third have taught in Udall 15 years or longer

I have five children in the district. The teachers, faculty, administration — you really do know everybody on a personal level. If you have an issue you can call them at home. The one-on-one attention your kids get is awesome. Your kid just isn’t a number. They generally care about kids and making sure they get a good education.
