FREE Affordable Care Act Presentation

December 1, 2017
Cowley College Wright Room
1:00 – 2:30 pm

A FREE Affordable Care Act Presentation will be hosted by Cowley First-Cowley County Economic Development from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., December 1, 2017 at Cowley College Wright Room, 215 S. 2nd, Arkansas City. The presentation is geared towards employers, business owners, human resource managers, CPA’s and attorneys but anyone can attend.

The Affordable Care Act has been in effect for more than seven years. Efforts to “repeal and replace” the law as a whole have all failed to this point. However, that does not mean the ACA is unchanged. Numerous provisions have been repealed or changed and the IRS and other government agencies have filled in numerous gaps in the law. Attorney Steven P. Smith will bring you up to date on key provisions of the law as they affect employers, including provisions that have been changed, repealed, or delayed, and will also review the changes that will be made if legislation pending in Congress is approved.

Mr. Smith is a member of the Hinkle Law Firm LLC in Wichita, where his practice is focused on employee benefits. Mr. Smith works regularly with employers of all sizes to help them understand and comply with the Affordable Care Act and other laws that affect the way they offer benefits to their employees, including laws such as ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, and the Internal Revenue Code. Mr. Smith is a frequent public speaker on employee benefit related topics. Since 2003, he has been a contributing author for the book, Group Health Plans: Federal Mandates Other Than COBRA & HIPAA, which is published by the Employee Benefits Institute of America, a division of Thomson Reuters. He is also a member of the Kansas Bar Association, the Wichita Bar Association, and the Gulf Coast Area IRS TE/GE Council. Mr. Smith received his B.A. from Wichita State University and his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law.
