Chance of storms this evening. A line of storms are expected to form in NC Kansas and extend southward into Oklahoma and move in an ENE fashion. It appears the main tornadic threat tonight will be south of us in Oklahoma. However, there is a tornado threat for Cowley County, but it is minimal. The main threat this evening will be hail and winds.
Storms may continue overnight and into the mid-morning with some reaching marginally severe limits. Those should clear out and the sun will shine for awhile.
The next round of storms are expected to fire Saturday afternoon along the Kansas Turnpike Corridor into the Flinthills after 5:00pm. These will form as supercells and contain the possibility of tornadoes, large hail and winds. Cowley County, along with Sumner, Butler, Sedgwick, Harvey, Chautauqua, Elk and Greenwood Counties are the primary targets as of now.

Cowley County Animal Response Team
Filed in EM News | Home Comments Off
Cowley County is in the early stages of creating an Animal Response Team. The team
will be a part of the Cowley County Citizen Corps program and will be completely
voluntary. Its primary function will be to work with government entities, not-for-profit
organizations and the animal industry to assist with local preparedness and response
for animals during emergencies and disasters. Animal experience is not necessary, but
a genuine desire to work with others and develop and professional team is required.
Kelly Benton, the Unit Coordinator for KS SART (Kansas State Animal Response Team)
will be in Cowley County to provide us with a brief informational seminar to assist in
the formation of this team. If you feel this is something you may be interested in, you
are invited to attend the seminar.
Date: Monday, March 12, 2012
Time: 7:00pm
Location: Assembly Room (basement) of the Physician’s Pavilion
1230 E. 6th Ave
Winfield, KS
