Cowley First-Cowley County Economic Development provides a wide range of business support services including business plan and cash flow assistance, commercial building locating, marketing, workforce development classes, job fairs and employee recruitment, plus much more.
While Cowley First staff often provides these services or partner with local experts, there are times that business resources are brought into Cowley County to provide more in-depth business training; such is the case this fall. Cowley First is partnering with NetWork Kansas and WSU Center for Entrepreneurship to host a very popular and instructive business workshop series called “Growing Rural Business”.
As one of 59 E-Communities in Kansas, Cowley County benefits from resources and programs such as the E-Community Loan Program through NetWork Kansas. New to Cowley County is the opportunity to host a business series geared towards new and established businesses located in rural regions such as Cowley County.
The Growing Rural Business series was created and is instructed by WSU Center for Entrepreneurship business experts. The program provides hands-on, practical information for business operators who want to see their business grow. While some businesses may not identify themselves as a rural business, in this situation rural is identifying the area that you serve, not the type of business that you operate.
Past attendees in other Kansas communities have included landscapers, coffee shops and restaurants, art galleries, office supply business, law offices, lumber yards, manufacturers, auto repair, grocery stores, physical therapy clinics, vet clinics, among many other retail and service businesses. So any business in Cowley County should consider attending.
In consideration of small business owner’s busy daytime schedule running their business, classes are held in the evenings to enable them to give the class subject matter their full attention.
The program is an eight session series encompassing three hours on Thursday nights from 5:30-8:30 beginning September 21. A light meal is provided. Participants attending a minimum of seven sessions earn a certificate from WSU Center for Entrepreneurship.
WSU faculty will cover a wide range of business topics including customer discovery, social media and search engine optimization, basic sales techniques, practical legal Issues, finances, developing a niche strategy; to name a few.
To make the workshop series as affordable as possible, an Early Bird discount of $50 is being offered until September 1st, reducing the cost to $200. In thanks to our partnerships with Community National Bank, RCB Bank and Union State Bank, a limited number of scholarships are being offered to further reduce the price for local businesses. Registration is required and seats are limited.
