Barn Quilt Classes April 14-15, 2017

April 2017 Classes flyer

Cowley First-Cowley County Economic Development will be presenting classes April 14 and April 15. Registration will be accepted until April 3, unless the class fills sooner, as space is limited. Anyone interested in attending a class or wanting to be made aware of future classes may contact Cowley First by calling (620) 221-9951 or (620) 442-3094 or email dfirebaugh@cowleycounty.org.

Classes will be held Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15 at Tisdale Methodist Church, 8 miles east of Winfield at 17507 US Hwy 160. Attendees may choose to make a 2 foot, 4 foot, 6 foot or an 8 foot barn quilt.

Class times for 2 and 4 foot quilts are 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Larger quilts may be painted Friday 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., enabling painters to paint both days on the 6 and 8 foot quilts.

Cost for the class is as follows: (2’) $40; (4’) $65; (6’) $125 and (8’) $160, which includes all supplies. Attendees may bring a pattern or choose a pattern at the class. Barn quilts are painted on Medium Density Overlay board (MDO), also known as sign board, which is appropriate for outdoor use and painted with high-quality exterior latex paint.

Anyone from Cowley County or the surrounding area is invited to register for the barn quilt classes. The barn quilt does not have to be hung on a barn nor does it have to be added to the trail; though quilt trail applications will be available at the classes for those that would like to have their quilt added to the maps and websites.
