Back Road Dining in Cowley County

 

For the second summer, the fun dining promotion “Back Road Dining in Cowley County” is kicking off May 6th.  Once again, Cowley First-Cowley County logoEconomic Development has teamed up with five restaurants in Cowley County to offer a chance to win a $25 dining gift certificate.

Those wishing to participate in the Back Road Dining promotion are asked to dine at all five participating restaurants where they can receive a punch card. After eating at all five establishments their completed card will be entered into the free drawing. You may complete the Back Road Dining circuit more than once prior to the conclusion of the promotion on September 10, 2017.

The Back Road restaurants are excited to be kicking off the summer promotion and welcome you to their dining establishments. All known for homemade specialties and crowd-pleasing favorites, a large variety of amazing food awaits you.

Lil’ Red Rooster, 323 Main St, Atlanta, (620) 394-2022 has extended their operating hours and is open Tuesday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. With thirteen different burgers to choose from a person is bound to find a new favorite. Breakfast items like fresh hot pancakes and dinnertime options like ribs, fish and shrimp and chicken fried steaks are common. Historical pictures of Atlanta grace the interior walls and a mural of The Caboose Museum is proudly displayed outside.

The Sassy Lady Cafe, 503 Elm St., Burden, (620) 438-2040 offers a unique dining experience. Enjoy a fresh baked cinnamon roll or baked good in addition to traditional breakfast offerings. Daily lunch and dinner specials as well as bierocks and specialty sandwiches with homemade sides and desserts will delight your taste buds. They have fantastic rib eye steak dinner from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m on Friday & Saturday night. Private parties are welcome. Hours of operation are Sunday through Wednesday 7:00 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday and Friday 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., then open again for the steak night from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Grouse Valley Grill and Catering, 501 N. Hwy K-15, Dexter, (620) 876-5617 is a local favorite. Known for hearty breakfasts and amazing hand-pattied hamburgers paired with your favorite side, the Grouse Valley Grill is a must-stop while visiting the Henry’s Candy Factory and barn quilts in Dexter. Operated by Randy and Wanda since 2010, the grill is open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Chicken fried steak dinner is their Saturday night specialty. You can also call them for your catering needs.

Along Hwy 77 in Rock Ks is the Solid Rock Café, 301 S. Winfield Street, (620) 986-5500. Celebrating three-years in business, Solid Rock has an extensive breakfast and lunch menu including the Solid Rock Burger, a combination of beef, pork, cheddar and bacon. Their full menu is served Tuesday through Saturday 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During the summer, the café is also open Friday and Saturday nights from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. serving steaks on Friday night and rotating specials including fried catfish, pork loin and lasagna on Saturday nights.

The newest restaurant in the area, Chihua’s Mexican Restaurant, 121 E. 1st St., Udall receives rave reviews for their authentic Mexican specialties, extensive menu options plus daily specials. The newly added bar is a great addition to the dining experience at the locally owned dining establishment. Open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. Operating hours are Monday through Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Friday to Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

If traveling a great distance or near the summer holidays to dine at one of these café’s it is recommended to call ahead to confirm their hours.

While traveling the back roads of the county enjoy the many road side attractions, the 17 stone-arch bridges, the 160 plus barn quilts that decorate the country side or the Cowley County waterfall. Information and maps of the many county attractions can be found at Visit.CowleyCounty.org.
